Reference Calls
Debunked once and for all!
Out of all the low-iQ shidduch ideas out there, reference calls tops the list! For those whose brains haven’t yet turned to mush, reference calls are this nonsense shidduch related concept in which you provide the number of your friend to either the match or someone who will be calling on behalf of a match for them to call to do “research” on you. This is a very retarded idea for a number of reasons:
You don’t actually get to know the person.
Everyone has the understanding that they are to give as parve and evasive answers as humanly possible, which defeats the supposed purpose entirely.
If you are calling this guy/gal’s friends, they will certainly say whatever they feel they need to to get you on that date.
It wastes everyone’s time, when the most efficient way to handle this would be the two people going out for a cup of coffee like a pair of adults they are supposed to be.
With the above reasons in mind, we can definitively conclude that reference calls are a complete waste of time and the only way you are going to find the truth about the other person is by not being a lazyass and going out finding out for yourself.
I once had a girl ask me for a reference for myself. I simply gave her my Google Voice number. Needless to say, her & I didn’t last for too long.
In conclusion, anyone who is dumb enough to engage in this inane practice deserves to be lied to, and if they expect anything different, they clearly lack the fundamental knowledge of basic human behavior.
